Thinking of My Cousins on Memorial Day.

Yona McNish

My favorite cousins live in San Antonio, Texas; Tom and Yona McNish.  My cousin Tom was a Prisoner of War in Vietnam, shot down early in the war.  So he was in places like the Hanoi Hilton with Senator John McCain among others.

I was reading the story about the cast from the show Downton Abbey and their dinner at the White House.  My cousin met Tom when he returned.  She’d been wearing his Prisoner of War bracelet people wore to remember their conditions in then North Vietnam.

When the Prisoners of War returned, President Nixon told the veterans, “Pat and I are retiring for the night, the Marine band will play on, certain parts of the White House are free for you to wander in.

My cousins wandered into the Green Room and that’s where my Cousin Tom proposed to my cousin Yona.
