There was a baseball player for the 1934 St. Louis Cardinals, the team known as the Gashouse Gang named Pepper Martin.

He was once asked the standard silly sports journalists question, “Mr. Martin, why do you run so fast?”

Pepper Martin was actually gracious with the answer.  “Well sir, I grew up in Oklahoma and once you start runnin’ there ain’t nothin’ to stop you.”

Fast forward to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.  Jamaica‘s Usain Bolt is now known as the world’s fastest man.  Can’t you imagine the same question.  “Mr. Bolt, why do you run so fast?”  “Well mon, I grow up in West Kingston and if you aren’t armed or can’t sing Reggae you run.”

Sports questions don’t change sometimes.  Only the sports and the athletes.
