United States Secession Movements.

As Americans, are we losing our minds?  It’s not as though we’ve never had a Presidential election.  The campaign is bitter, you get past it and compromise.  Isn’t      politics the art of the possible?

Now, a bunch of our states have secession movements?  What’s up with that?  You are a sore loser so you want to take your ball and go home?

For the joy of it, I looked up Secession and American law involving it.  After all the United States was based on a revolution.  The opening is left and states are constantly threatening to leave the union.  The constitution neither says you can, nor you can’t.  Notice something.  No Confederate leader was ever tried for treason, because it would have brought up all sorts of Constitutional questions.  They felt the battlefield decided it.  This begs the question.  Was President Lincoln right legally in fighting to preserve the Union?

Division is messy.  I will give two examples:

Ulster (Ireland).  Northern Ireland is part of Ulster, Northern Ireland is NOT Ulster.  People discuss the six counties.  There are three Ulster counties from the traditional Ulster kingdom in the Irish Republic.

India and Pakistan.  All you have to do is watch the movie Gandhi, the British series The Jewel in the Crown and any documentary about the India/Pakistan partition and you are greeted with a bloody mess (literally).

Depending on needs would our Federal Government allow such secession?  Food for thought.

  1. I don’t think there’s anything to worry about. After all, Province of Quebec never seceded from Canada.
