A Silly Look at American Football.

Yes, that time of year is upon us, though it is hardly Autumn in Arizona.  (It’s supposed to be in the 100’s all week, and to me, football is blizzards).

Click on the link Loretto Horrigan Leary to read my Irish raised friend’s take on American Football.

I have a funny football story, involving a Romanian man.  The year was 1981.  My Dad, Marvin Charton’s colleague Ioan Motoc was allowed out of Communist Romania to visit the evil capitalistic United States.

I was helping Dad show Ioan Manhattan.  One of our stops was in the McGraw Hill Bookstore.

These were the early days for personal computers.  Think about the new movie about Steve Jobs.  One of the computers had a program for you to act as a head football coach.  The scenario was 2nd down and 7 yards to go on the opponents 20 yard line.  The computer gave you some plays to choose from.  I decided to go for broke and called a screen pass.  Sure enough, faked out the defense and scored.

I whooped it ups, as though I just pulled off a come from behind Super Bowl victory.  Ioan was amused, Dad looked at me askance.

And for you my dear Loretto, this is my touchdown story for you.
